Welcome
Welcome to the Biochar and Fertilization blog. Our goal with this site is to increase awareness about an opportunity. It is our one chance to do something about global warming. This is our window of opportunity, we need to act now, before it is too late.
Even if biochar did not sequester carbon more effectively than any other proven method, it would be well worth pursuing for theĀ other benefits inherent in the process. Richer soils mean better crops. Biochar makes nutriments available to plants, without itself being consumed in the process — it acts as a catalyst. It also helps soil retain moisture. Biochar enriched soils need less fertilizer and less irrigation to produce better crops, while leaching less pollution into the water table.
But biochar is not a fertilizer, that is why we also need to add nutriments to the soil. The best way to do that is through composting. Biochar even makes compost ‘work’ better. This is an incredible win-win-win situation that we must grab hold of now, while there is still time to reverseĀ the current trends toward warmer climate, depleted soils and polluted waters.
